The Downside
I was sitting down today with my new friend and tech advisor, Jack. He was showing me some more ins and outs of the internet. Frankly, I didn't know much about RSS feeds. I was watching some of the speeches and activities on TV today remembering 9/11. I have received about 50 emails today, 27 text messages, and at least a couple dozen phone calls.
I had a long lunch with one of my good friends discussing the vision of JustGod and started to form some thoughts for a memorial service I have been asked to officiate on Monday. Another pastor asked me to officiate the service for his father. I'm not sure there are too many higher statements of trust than that. It's been a full day.
As good as all of this is and was. I did not spend the kind of time I would have liked to hear from God. It takes silence and his word, not just once in awhile but often. The world is a noisey place even if you are living it for God. The downside of the information age - the technology - the communication - the learning of good stuff - is that it can rob you from time speaking and listening to the Creator. Simple stuff... reading the Bible, jotting down a prayer, sitting in quiet...
I long for the morning... Jim
